Malibu Christie!

Malibu Christie!

This was my last doll purchase of 2010. I didn't
break my doll budget for that time because I go her for
under $30.00! I could not believe it! If the economy
wasn't so bad, many doll collectors would not be selling
and more people would be buying and I probably wouldn't
have this doll! Maybe a Black Francie will come up in my
price range but I doubt it! This is one of those dolls that
pictures do not do justice! I am lover of Julia, but there is
something different and special about this doll!
She has more of an intense look that Julia. Could it be the
absence of eyelashes? They do give Julia a flirty look!

She is much darker that I remember Mattel ever doing for a doll
back them! I can imagine that this doll might have caused
some controversy in her day! She is not on the 1966 Japan
TNT body of a Julia but is on the 1966 Korea body.

Note the difference of the waist. Julia is a "V" and this
one is straight across. The bust on the Malibu body is
bigger too.

Her hands are different. Korean hand are smaller and fingers
are close together than the Japan Julia hands.

Princess of South Africa and Malibu Christie nude.

She is closer in complexion to Princess of South
Africa (POSA)! Note the difference in
body size. POSA is on the 1991 Body which
has a smaller bust and hips. This is not a mint doll.
There are some small pin holes in the feet. You can't see
them in pictures because of her complexion but you can
see them in person. Her hair needs some work too.

I have her hair pulled back but is a little puffy.
The has been a change in the complexion of her torso.
It has a gray cast to it and is no the same complexion as
her legs and head. In looking at other Malibu Christies I
have found this common for this doll.

She is still my favorite head of all!

Green Spot On Brown Dolls

Green Spot On Brown/Black Barbie Dolls

I have had a few AA doll get green spot on them. The first time it happen it was my fault. I put medal earrings on my vintage Julia. Vintage dolls, to me, seem especially vulnerable to green spot, green ear problems. I don't know if it happens to other AA dolls other than Mattel.

I went to the web for answers. The biggest suggestion was acne cream products that contain benzoyl peroxide 10%. It bleaches the green out. This works well on Caucasian dolls. The green comes out totally or almost totally. On AA/Black dolls it bleaches out the green some what but it bleaches out the complexion out too. You are left with a faded brown area with a green tinge to it.

The green spot on the ear of my Vintage Julia was unacceptable to me so I purchased another one. I also purchased a Repo Julia. I am hoping I won't have this problem with the Repo because I do like having jewelry on her. I will not leave them in any length of time. I don't want to tempt fate. I have taken the advice of Niels Dolls Room and will store my dolls nude.

My Home Coming AA Skipper got green spot on her legs. I tried the cream to see if it would work better on the body than the face but the results were the same. I recently purchased an new skipper. I don't know what caused the green spot on the Skippers legs. I don't know if it was something I did, or how I stored here, so I will keep a good eye on her.

If any one else has had this problem and can give me some good suggestions, I would love to hear it!

Julia-Comparing The Old To The Repro

I just love Julia. She was one of the first dolls I had to replace when rebuilding my collection. I purchased a Julia on ebay eight years ago. It was very hard to find a doll that I could afford at that time. I finally outbid on a doll on ebay but the hair wasn’t that great. I searched the web and found an artist to re-root her whose work I liked. I got a medium brown hair color (not the screaming orange that the hair had become), eyelashes filled in and nails and toe painted the same pink as the lipstick. She came back beautiful! I will give you the full story with pictures another time. Origanl Julia in black and white and Repro Julia in multi color top.

But today, I am comparing her here with the new reproduction that came out last year. Here are some pictures comparing the two. I do switch back and forth between them to play with. The face is a little different and so is the hair. I wasn’t sure I liked the new doll when I first saw it. I did like the fuller lips and the thought that there would be no green ear if I gave her earrings. I left in to the box for two days but she won me over. I took her out to play with. The eye color is about the same but the painting is slightly different and there is more of an arch to the eye brow on the new doll. The eyes give the new doll a more "relaxed look".

The old doll has a better craftsmanship to the body. The complexion on the new doll is lighter, the hair is longer and darker. Body is the same size so it will fit the old Julia clothers. This is a concern with all the clothes and bodies out there!

--- note the hands-- The fingers are smooth on the old doll( jagged plastic on the fingers of the new doll) and the plastic/rubber is better. The fingers are a different placement too!

The neck is different. The head doesn't come off as easy. Not sure if that is a plus or minus.

For me, the best doll....Ya know it!....the new head on the old body! Do you have a new and and old Julia? Tell me what you think!
