Fashionista Ken

Hey Gang!

I was surprised to find Preppy Florals Fashionista in my local Walmart!  He
was leftover from Black Friday!

I just love his face and a great smile!

His shirt is better made that the one they came on my Cool Classic Ken.

These are a new version of the old deck shoes issued for ken in the Fashion
Avenue paks.

 Fashionista boot shoes and Fashion Avenue boot shoes.

 The bottom of the shoes have different details!

The arms and legs  are unevenly coated as in past fashionista.

Now I thought that his headsculpt might be a version of AA Slim
Fashionista Plaid on Point!

But not only does he have a different headsculpt, he does have a different face...slightly!
I think that Mattel must have a like for the Jamal/Steven headsculpt.

Many of the AA male doll seem to have some part of the that headsculpt in theirs.

They have a similar smile and chin and shape of face but slightly different nose.

There were a few other new dolls there too but I was only looking for ethnic guys!

The darker version of Plaid on Point, Firefighter Ken looks closer but not the same.
 I really like the apron on the Barista Ken. Does one buy a doll just for the clothes?
Yes!

I originally thought he would be the same complexion as Super Stripes but he is a little
lighter.

They are like So In Style Grace and Kara!

Like Stripes, there are imperfections on the body like with Stripes.  See my review of
him.

I had planned to purchase and extra AA broad body for a project I had in mind
but I won't need to do that now.

Because Mattel hasn't made many clothes for the Broad dolls and most of the new
Ken fashions don't really fit Broad bodies, I have decided that I really only need one Broad
doll and he will get all the broad clothes.

So decided to Preppy with Florals on a standard size AA fashionista body.

I am calling him Kamau!

 He is a high school Student.

New 2017 Fashionista Ken Dolls

Hey Gang!

I have gotten a few Fashionista Ken doll but I haven't posted many of
them.  I know you have seen them before on other blogs and Facebook but
part of the reasons for my blog is to chronicle my dolls and my doll
development. So you will see them again here.

There are a bunch of new Fashionista Ken dolls out now! The most I
have ever seen. Normally we get one new Ken and maybe one AA male
(could be Steven or just AA Ken) every four or five years.  So to get
so many Fashionista Kens with different bodies was quite a surprise.

When they first came out, I tried to order from Barbie.com.
Barbie was not processing orders with PayPal even though there
was a checkout with PayPal button. Mattel has some serious issues!
Luckily I have great Blogger and Face book friends! They spotted
the new Kens locally and purchased them for me! Yay! There were
three that were must haves for me! They were: 8, 9, and 10!

One of my blogger friends and your...Anika of  Dollz4moi was able to
provide me with 8 and 10. And Tina, a friend from Facebook, was able
to provide me with 9.

Thanks to both of you!

 As you might have seen from my previous post,
I shrunk the head of #9 and he is now Coleman!

Now let's look my others!  Starting with# 10!

This guy is so cute! He looks like my nephew.

I like his pronounced lips and that aren't some strange color.

He comes on the same body as Hip Hoodie.  This new body  and head has a 2016
date like Hip Hoodie. That leads me to believe that they were conceived at the
same time.  Although the head is able to pivot, the neck knob doesn't allow him
to do so.

I am hoping to for a made to move AA Ken body sometime soon.  Both Hip Hoodie
and Cool Classic has a  larger head than #17 and Texas Cheerleader. I really though
that one of these would be the new face of Steven.  I Steven gone for good? I
guess we will see.

I pierced his ears and gave him a very light mustache. 

 I have seen others alter his hair.  That might be in his future.

For now he will keep his molded and painted braids.

The name I giving him is Zion!

Many refer to the Broad body as the Dad body but I don't know about that!

Warning Nude Dollie!

His body doesn't look like Happy Family Grandpa! I will compare him to other bodies
that are larger than the basic Fashionista Ken doll.  Below is the broad boy with
a GI Joe on an articulated Action Man and Disney Male. These are larger bodies.
He is wider all the way to the hips unlike the other dolls below.

The name I am giving him is Camden and he is from NJ.

I have messed around with different outfit. Older 70's doll clothes fit him.  

I have seen any broad clothes come out for the larger Ken bodies.

I have since this photo rebodied him onto a articulated body. My broad doll
outfit have gone to Luther will remain on his broad body.

New Doll To My Collection!

Hey Gang!
I have recently added two new dolls to my collection...they are 18 and 80!

Both of these dolls I have been looking forward to for a while!  Not enough

this time to chase them down like I did the 2017 Fashionista Petite, Slim and
Broad.  I waited until they showed up at my local Wal-Mart. Today I will
share with you Broad Fashionista Ken #18 Super Stripes!

I wasn't sure when I first saw him on line, already have SIS Darren, if I should

add him to my collection.  That smile wore me down!  I picture OOAK artists



turning him into Luther Vandross! What do you think?

So does he look like the promo? Yes, pretty much! There were five in my 

local Walmart.  Only two did have errors in the hairline that looked like the went 

to a drunk barber! So, what is that 40% or a "F"

Here he is in his outfit.

I like the pieces of the outfit separately but not so sure I would have put him

together like this.  His shirt and pants are well made but maybe his pants are a

little to long for me.  As a big guy, Luther likes his things more tailored!

I notice that guys are wearing pants longer but my guys

won't! His sneakers are basic white Ken sneakers.

I compared SIS  Darren to AA Fashionista Ken 2016.

So let's compare Darren to #18 My Luther Herschel (yup!  he has a last name).

It is the same head sculpt but a little more filled out!

Depending on the photo Darren's eye photo gray/green or lite brown.  Luther's eye are true light brown/hazel

Darren has a higher forehead.  Luther's head is bigger.

Now some of you might know that I really don't like big heads on dolls but on him

it works! He looks better on the broad body than the others I purchase because of it.  I

rebodied my other Broad dolls on to smaller bodies.  I think I will keep him on the

Broad body (hope there will be articulation in the future) and he gets to keep all the

broad clothes!

He is a little darker than Darren.  He is more chocolate!

So as we have come to expect, there are body issues! So are we just excepting body

issues or is Mattel doing anything about it?  Has anyone contacted Mattel about these

issues?  If so, what did they say? I called and complained.  They took my info but

were unable to tell me if someone will get back to me on it.

 Uneven body paint finish on multiple body parts!

This especially show up on arms and legs!

 I circled these and I hope you can see them.

 White spots on the chest and back that won't rub off!

So let's look at Luther in a few outfits!

Luther was husky as a boy, and considers himself a big guy.

No Fat Albert or Rerun jokes!
