Dolly Crafting At The Native American Longhouse Settlement!

Hey Gang!

Recently I watch some videos that Martha Stewart did on wreaths and she was my muse for this posting. Unfortunately I could link her video here. Martha isn't sharing like that but I did find 

another.

Happy Family Grandma plays double duty in my dolliverse and here she is Martha Stewart.. If you have ever listen to Martha Stewart, you know that she has a distinct voice. So I ask you
to imagine her voice as Happy Family Grandma.  Martha has come to and asked Loraine to show us how she makes holiday crafts from pine cones.

Martha: On this segment we traveled to Pennsylvania to make pine cone wreaths! 

We are in the kitchen of the Native American Longhouse Settlement to meet with artist Loraine Running Bear!

Loraine runs her company Spirit for her home here.  She is widely know for her pottery!

This is one of her pottery here!

We are here in her wonderful longhouse kitchen ...

to have show us one of the other things she has become famous for. 

Loraine makes beautiful pine cone crafts!

Martha: You have beautiful pine cones here!

Loraine: Thank you! The settlement sits on over 1200 acres and we have many different varieties of evergreens

.

Martha: You have recently be able to move here?

Loraine: Yes, there was a 15 year law suit to get back our land here and it was only recently settled.

Since moving back, I have been able to enjoy the land and discover it beauty and bounty.

The wonderful pine cones here are great for all kinds of arrangements and crafts. I walk the grounds 

with my basket and collect them for my projects! This time of year they are plentiful.

Martha: Well, that is a good thing!

Happy Halloween! Since this is the day for magic, I thought I would share with you my....

Bellatrix Lestrange!

She, like Cinderella Fairy Godmother are modeled after  Helena Bonham Carter who is a famous British actress.

Bellatrix is one of the bad wizards in the films and is rumored to have had a baby with Voldemort!

Yeah, don't think about it or your skin might crawl.

I love her two tone hair color and that she has a bent wand.

The other detail of her outfit are pretty nice too!

I have a black witches hat that would work well with her outfit but like with most things around her,

I will have to find it.

Guess what I found online at Walmart! Yup! I was able to order two before they started making you "check out your local store for availability".

Malik: Yeah, that outfit is for a youth. Did you know he doesn't have the purple bottom sneakers?

Anthony: Really?

So lets compare them.  The new doll is lighter than the old doll. The new doll has more of a matte look to him too.

The beard is higher on the new doll.

Like my Malik, I tried putting the old doll's head on the new body and like it!

Now let's put him in the old outfit.  Yeah, I like that better!

Anthony: I heard the Queens were her!

Malik: Yeah, that is another story!

When searching for it. none of the Target stores in my area had it and the people selling them online wanted $90 to $200 for it when the item sold for just $20.00. I thought I might have to wait until next for one. There just happen to be one in stock when I was in my local store. I ran out screaming!

I'm Surprised To Find Out That...

 Hey Gang!

I'm surprised to find out that not only is it Columbus Day but it is Indigenous Peoples' Day! 

President Biden issued a proclamation on Friday to observe this Oct. 10 as a day to honor Native Americans, their resilience and their contributions to American society throughout history, even as they faced assimilation, discrimination and genocide spanning generations. 

This is the second time that President Biden has issued this proclamation. Biden first issued a proclamation recognizing the day in 2021. The move shifts focus from Columbus Day, the federal holiday celebrating Christopher Columbus, which shares the same date as Indigenous Peoples' Day this year.

Native Americans have long criticized the inaccuracies and harmful narratives of Columbus' legacy that credited him with his "discovery" of the Americas when Indigenous people were there first.

There are no set rules on how one should appreciate the day. It's all about reflection, recognition, celebration and an education. 

This is a serious topic that I might tackle at another time. I am using today to show you guys my new Looks Ken #6 doll that to me seems to be Native American.
