My Sewing Project

My Sewing Project

If you follow my blog, you will remember that I brought this
bench and another one from a thrift store a while back. I had
not got around to doing anything to them. They were
going to be park benches but I found benches that I like
better for that. So what to I do with these?

Now that I am back on my doll budget, I am back to working
with some of the things that I have. I took a suggestion made
a friend about the benches. I am making them sofas in a county
style home.

So this was my sewing project and photo shoot for
the weekend. I made the cushion and set up this
room for a shoot.

"Waiting For Tea Time" is what I call it.

A little country living room where two friends can have
tea! (Yeah I could have pressed the rug! Oh well!)

I used some old pieces that I haven't used in a while to add
some little touches.

I made the cushion from fabric I had. I have two bags of
fabric waiting for projects. I have to be in the mood for
sewing. My budget will now have to get me in the mood!

Oh and don't worry, you guys that make sofas. Ms Leo
will not be competing with you. Your save!
I got this tea set last year at the Flower Show.

I found these glass bottles at a thrift store. I found the clock
and the vase there too. The antique stove is a Avon perfume
bottle I found at a thrift store the same day. It was a
really good shopping day!

This plate ( so cute), flower pot( thimbles really) and the
tables came from a Dollar Store. You can't beat the
Dollar Store!

Rug is a place mat. I will need to work on my art and
hanging the art. By the way it is hanging, it looks like
something was in the tea. I really need to up my game on
how I do that. I should put pictures on core board.
I like the way the room came out. I have to
see what other things I can do now.

Khadijah’s first Valentines Day!

Peter's Bistro
Brandon had been tutoring Khadijah in chemistry for three
months. They met twice a week at the local coffee shop.
During their session, he had come to appreciate her intellect,
her grace and charm and her beauty. He looked forward to
the time spent with her and he would like more! Being new
the US, Khadijah is still learning the traditions.

Brandon asked Khadijah to lunch on Valentines Day week.
He asked out to one of his favorite places, Peter’s Bistro.
They took a seat and chatted while waiting to be served

He had brought her a present. He hoped to take their
relationship up a notch.... more than just friends.

Brandon: They have excellent cappuccino here. It is one
my favorite things to have here.
Khadijah: That’s good. The coffee at the shop near school
isn’t the best.

Brandon: Is that why you order the tea? He knew she
liked coffee.

Khadijah: Yes, but it isn’t too good either. They use bags.
I guess I am use to coffee and tea in the Middle East and the
Mediterranean. I can’t get use to instant!

He found himself drowning in her eyes!

He clutched the bag.
Brandon: If you don’t mind, I would like to order for you.

Khadijah: Oh no, go right ahead! She thought most American
men were so passive. It was nice to be with one who could
take charge.
Edwige came over to take their order. She noticed the bag on
the floor and smiled to herself. Amour! ...
Bonjour ! Bonjour Brandon. Edwige spoke in a Haitian Creole
that Brandon was able to follow. It was different than the French that
Khadijah spoke in North Africa but she could follow too.

He spoke in french and asked for two cappuccinos very
strong and two burgers. He notice that Khadihah had
acquired the taste for American burgers too.

Khadijah: I didn’t know you spoke French?
Brandon: It is not classic French. I am working on that. It
is the Creole we speak in Mississippi. Her French is a Creole
that they speak in Haiti. Together we manage! He smiled.
Khadijah could tell that Edwige thought highly of him.

Khadijah: This is really good coffee!

Edwige told them she would be back with the burgers
tut sweet.

Khadijah: How long have you lived here and what made
you move?

Brandon: I’ve been here six months and I came when my
dad was stationed here.

He is in the military. Brandon was pleased.
They were getting to know each other personally. They
were getting pass formulas to real chemistry.
Another costumer came in and Edwige seated her and took
her order as the couple chatted.

Khadijah: These are really great burgers!
Brandon: I noticed that you really like burgers!
Khadijah: What else do you notice? She said jokingly.
Brandon: I notice everything about you!
He stared at her intensely.

Khadijah looked down. She could feel herself blush. She ate her
burger until she felt controlled enough to look up. When she
looked up, she smiled. It was Brandon’s turn to blush. Brandon
thought that it was the time to give her the present.

I brought this for you. Happy Valentines day.

Khadijah : Oh how nice of you. I am sorry but I don’t have
a present for you. I didn’t know we should exchanges gifts.
Is that what the tutored do?

Brandon: No it is not. I think you are the smartest and
sweets person I have ever met. I want to be more than
that to you.

Khadijah: Brandon, You are the kindest and smartest man
and I like you too but...

for us to be more than friends, you will
have to speak to my father. We are still a little traditional

Brandon being a southern gentleman, he said:
No problem. I will speak to your father. It is the right
thing to do.
They sat and talked while waiting for the check.

It was a great first date.
It was Khadijah’s first Valentines Day.

Ghana Barbie

DOTW Ghana Barbie

This is the Ghana Barbie. She is part of a series of dolls done
by Mattel called Dolls of the World (DOTW). She was
produced in 1996 and was precede by Nigerian – 1990,
Jamaican--1991/1992 and Kenyan – 1994
(previously posted).

She wears a Kente over dress and and a
matching headdress.

She has gold earrings and a lovely gold pendant.

Under the Kente she wears a simple yellow shift dress.
Sorry I don't have the box but....
The back of the box says:
Hello, I'm Ghanaian Barbie. I'd like to tell you all about
my wonderful homeland, Ghana! Situated on the coast in
Western Africa, Ghana was once called the Gold coast, but
at our independence in 1957 was renamed Ghana, after an
ancient empire. Hand-woven cloth, called Kente cloth, is
Ghana's most famous craft product. Its bright colors and
patterns are woven by Ashanti tribe men, and are worn
for special ceremonial occasions. We are also proud of our
wood carving skills and we make many interesting masks
for religious and native ceremonies. Ghana is a wonderful
country to include in your travels. Our country is lovely
and filled with many things to see and do. I hope see you
soon! Goodbye!
She uses one of the 1990 (released in 1991) Shani doll head
mold. Of the three head molds of the Shani line, Asha, Shani
and Nichelle, Asha is used the most. Nichelle
is a little less used but surprisingly Shani, the doll the line
is named for, is very rarely used.
I have her paired here with Menelik for
African American History month. They are on display
at a local library. We Must Share Our Joy With Others!

Close up of them together.

I don't have her original shoes so she has borrowed some
gold sandal form MOTM Nikki.
Here they are instructing the children.

Disney's Kayla

Popping Up For Some Rays
and A Rare Snack!

Tropical Splash Kayla from Little Mermaid!

She loves the ocean but there are somethings you can only
get on pizza!

It is never hot once you take it to the bottom of the sea
and it doesn't taste the same either! No one wants to

For a long time Kayla didn't want to come up
from the ocean. She liked her home.

Also the whole tale thing made it kinda hard too.

It is not easy to stand on.

Info on Kayla
Mattel and Disney did three Tropical Splash girl dolls
other than Ariel and one boy doll, Eric, in the
Little Mermaid line in 1998.
The web says that this is one(Kayla) of the
rarest Disney dolls out

Arista (Ariel's sister), Attina, Kayla

Now that she is on a Teen Skipper Body, Kayla plans
to enjoy more pizza, other on land snacks and do some
shopping! She has alot of clams to spend and know where
to find more.

I have a Kayla head to sell or swap, if anyone is interested!
