Hey Gang,
The other day, I went to the thrift store looking for more articulated bodies.I went through the racks with my eyes, which has become a fine-tooth comb
for them. I came across a bag with these in it. I normally would not have
noticed them because they are Barbies and they don't have hair like I look for.
If I had noticed these types of items in the past, I would have glanced and moved on.
But this time I gave them a real look.
I think I did it because I have been exposed to this type of thing from
reading Debbie's blog, Black Doll Collecting. Not all dolls are for play or dios.
Some things are for display or have because they represent something from your
past or culture! So they went in the cart and out of the store with my
Barbie finds! I think I did well! I don't know if they are collectible or who they
are made by, but they are interesting to me.
They will invade my husband's domain-- the shelf in the kitchen. This is where his
Teddy bears, stuffed animals, and Joe live. I hope they fit in and find some friends.
The girl: What...the kitchen!
Fellow: Will there be food for us?
I'm a little hungry. All I had was this cookie!
Mama: Oh, the kitchen sounds like a nice place!
I'll bring my wagon!

I think it's a good thing you've branched out into the "folk doll" area of collecting. That's what these dolls are considered since they are handcrafted (or appear to be) one of a kind dolls representing members of a segment of society as they are or as they are perceived. I have a few folk dolls in my collection and guess what, some are in the kitchen. One is a nutcracker and the others are tiny ceramic dolls that replicate the bisque black dolls made in Japan during the 1930s.
Visitors to your kitchen no doubt will find them interesting conversation pieces.

dbg of BDE, Thanks! I knew I could get info from you on these dolls. Folk doll...so that is what they are called. I get question about the items in the kitchen a lot so they will be a great addition.
